The Langside Mountaineering Club was formed in Glasgow in 1957 originally meeting at the Langside College. The club was set up to promote the safe and competent introduction of people to mountaineering. To provide training in all aspects of mountaineering including safety, map and compass work, and other matters connected to the safe use of mountain areas and high tops at home and abroad. And to assist in training of instructors, leaders and guides. We're not quite as formal these days but the club is great place for mountaineers, climbers and hill walkers of all levels of experience to get out into the hills. We have a regular programme of monthly meets at places such as the Cairngorms, Skye, Torridon and the Isle of Arran. On Wednesday evenings during the winter there is always a regular contingent of club members at the Glasgow Climbing Centre . And in the summer we hold well attended cragging trips to places such as Auchinstarry, The Whangie, Neilston and Ben A'an. We are also pretty strong on the social side with a Dinner Dance in Glencoe each November and a Party Weekend in June. If you want to improve your climbing, find climbing or walking partners, or just join a very socialable mountaineering club - then come along to the Camphill Bowling Club in Shawlands on any Wednesday evening around 9pm.
