First meet of the year at the beautiful Gillside Farm campsite, Glenridding, Cumbria as recommended by Chod.
Nina, Steven, Rab, Cathy and Niall went to Gill crag on the Saturday. Despite rain, wind and cold temperatures, two teams managed an easy climb each (though Niall did so wearing a belay jacket throughout). The rock was lovely and the gear sparse. Continuation of the poor weather didn't promote the virtues of second route so they chilled out at the top before descending the grassy ridge back to the car. Meanwhile Donald headed up a Marilyn; and Chod, Eilidh, Carl, Bounty and Fiona went up Helvellyn and Striding Edge.
On Sunday Jude, Jen, Andy Roscoe, Cathy, Sarah and Rab did Helvellyn and Striding Edge; whilst Niall took baby Robin up to Red Tarn via upper Glenridding for a spot of lunch, then went back down via the normal path up. Chod and Eilidh headed to the pub to watch the Ryder Cup.
Liz and Andy also came down, Liz impressively heading to the pub and back on her crutches Friday night (uneven farm track + hill in relative darkness!), then they walked and cruised around Derwentwater over Saturday and Sunday. Good to see ankle not stopping her getting out. Andy introduced us to some amazing pork pies from the Keswick butcher. More than sufficient sustenance for our Lakes walking and worth remembering next time!
